Not dead, I swear

I haven’t posted here for awhile for a few reasons… the biggest one being that Pete has been trying to wrest control of this site away from Yahoo. Blogger sucks, and yet I have posted far less on this site or the other one because I haven’t had a great deal of time to really figure out the interface for WordPress. I know it’s not THAT hard, but I have been really busy.

I started a new show. I left my other show. I was making more money, and it had quite a bit more cache than the one I’m working on now. AND I had so much knitting time it was almost a joke. So why did I leave? Because I was bored out of my tree. Really there is only so much knitting a girl can do a day, even if she is getting paid for it. After six hours or so my hands would start to hurt (that’s never happened before) and I was bored bored bored. So I took the job offer for a show with less money, and way less (read none) knitting time at work. But it so much fun, I work less hours, get a car allowance (unheard of), and generally have a much better life than I did last year when I got no sleep. I really get to flex my skills and creativity every single day. And I am learning so much. So, way better.

I have been getting some knitting done, only now it’s like normal people. I finished a pair of socks for my friend Squirrel’s birthday. I knit them using Wendy’s toe up pattern (and not my own toe up pattern) because I made them out of this yarn. The short row toes make it so your stripey stripes actually DO that (stripe) rather than just turn into a big ole pool-y mess of color. Considering what the color looked like when the came out of the ball, can you imagine what a horrible mess that would have been. Go ahead and look on, you can’t take your eyes away from this train wreck… Fortissima Socka in the “Sombrero” colorway. Sombrero being spanish for “you are insane for buying this yarn”…

fugly yarn

Here’s a close up of what the striping looked like. Including the weird drops of dye scattered through the yarn that were muy ugly. (By the way, these are not the socks I knitted. I forgot to take a picture before I gave them away. I found this photo on flickr, and cropped it just to show what the striping looked like. I apologize to the knitter that owns the photo and the socks…now I can’t find your link!)

What was I thinking?

I’m glad my friend loved these. I wouldn’t wear these ever. I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought the yarn…

I have been working on this:

branching out scarf

It’s the “branching out” scarf from knitty. A very easy pattern (for people who can count to 31 or 27 or 25, but whatever) I’m knitting it in Handmaiden Seasilk in the “Forest” colorway. Thank god I bought this stuff before WendyKnits did and posted it on her site, otherwise I’d have to wait six months to get my hands on this stuff. That lady’s got good taste in yarn, though it does make it difficult to find it once she’s posted a favorite… It’s pretty and shiny, and it smells kinda salty. I likey.

I’d say I have 5 or 6 more pattern repeats before I cast off and block. Photos then…

OOOOH. Pretty pictures! (I’m glad to see a new post and that everything looks like it’s working.) Let me know if you need any help with WordPress or adding themes.

I would totally wear those socks. If I’m going to spend hours and hours making socks, I want them to be noticed.
