Remembrance of things past

Things were mailed this week. And everything arrived safely so now I can post about it…

Kirsty of So Many Yarns was the winner of my comments contest. Go on over and say HI and to see the prize package.

I have to say that it was fun to put things together and send them to a complete stranger. And also getting to *meet* so many other residents in Knitbloglandia was a total bonus.

I think I’m going to do another contest after the 1st of the year. You know, after Christmas when we are all poor from buying things for other people that are not yarn. I’ve been purchasing some presents for family, and I don’t think I have to tell you that buying things that are not wooly and soft holds little interest for me. Non-knitters. Meh.

A little while back I had a sort of secret project that I was doing for Pete. Pete hosts both of my sites, AND he designed them too. And? He wouldn’t take my money. So I went ahead and knit him a thank you. I couldn’t really post about it since he does read this site. But I finally finished it, blocked it, and put it in a box for shipping. And then after a week of whining about being sick I finally sent it to him. He’s gotten it. Go over and tell him to get a photo of him wearing the scarf.

IRISH HIKING SCARF details:

Specifics:

Pattern: Irish Hiking Scarf from Hello Yarn!

Yarn: Malabrigo #181 100% Pure Merino Wool, Worsted Weight. Kettle dyed, 215 yards per 100 gr. skein - 2 skeins

Needles: Size US 8, 12″ Susan Bates aluminum (these may have been the first needles I ever purchased. Like a gateway drug…) and a wooden cable needle. Yeah I still use a cable needle. That whole “cabling without a cable needle” is some fiddly bullshit for me. But you go ahead *coughnerdcough*.

Gauge: Um. It’s a scarf. Who the hell cares? The label says: Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch, Needle size 7-9

Mods: None. It’s an easy pattern without need of modification.

Notes: I thought my hatred of knitting scarves was well documented on this site, but after going through my archives I see that is not the case. I really do hate knitting scaves. So boooooooring. And they go on forever. But this one wasn’t too bad. And I did like knitting with the Malabrigo. It’s super soft and I really liked the color work up.

When I would get completely sick of knitting the scarf I would think about how much I hate dicking around trying to fix my website (I had one on diaryland, then diary-x, then blogger, and now wordpress). If there’s anything that makes me want to stab someone with a pointy needle more than knitting a scarf it’s HTML. So, thank you Pete!

The only drawback to knitting those awesome cables? The BF kept fondling the scarf and telling me how much he would love to have a cable knit sweater.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Um. No. Not unless there’s some sparkly jewelry ring thingy invloved. Asscher cut. Upwards of 2 carats. I think that’s fair.

I agree on the cabling without a cable needle. It takes me twice as long. And I’ve gotten where I can cable with a cable needle just as quickly as regular knitting.

Great prize package! Now I wish I had won….oh well. Next time maybe!

Lovely scarf! I’m still working up to the cable thing, with or without a needle. Give me another few months … years … :-)

OOOOO, cable knit. I’ve got the yarn, the pattern and the cable needles. Now I just need to sit and knit.

Or is that stitch and bitch? Either way.
