Anti Social

So, I’m not sure if I’m over my blogging crankiness, but I’m going to slog ahead anyway. I know I’m definitely not over my general crankypantsedness (think that’s not a word? According to my Mozilla dictionary, it is now). It’s been a long week.

Last Sunday was the first 2007 Anti Social Knitters meet up (Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter). It was really quite fun. La was a really nice host, Zoe was very fun, and I went home with more yarn than I came with. For you stash Nazis playing along, this yarn was bought for me by La at SAFF. It was not included in her stash photos as it was bought months ago intended as a gift.

I was a good girl too. I only brought wine and wigs, no stash enhancement for the hostess. (BTW, La, you should just go ahead and drink that wine with your DH. ) The funny thing about the ASK meet up was that there was hardly any knitting going on. I blabbered away, brought out wigs to try on, talked about histardical reenactment with Mr.La, and took photos. In fact, I prattled on so much that I didn’t even finish my delicious sandwich. I normally don’t talk that much, but I tend to babble when I’m around people I don’t know.

Want to see some pictures?

Here is the fabulous gift that La gave me: Gorgeous blue sock yarn, soap, stitch markers, and bath fizzies

Close up of the adorable stitch markers and soap that smells so good I want to eat it

The bath fizzies!

Here’s a photo of Zoe actually doing what we came to do…knit.

Since I can only have a dog vicariously, this is Saber. He’s a gorgeous boy who wants nothing more than to eat your leftovers and get scratched behind the ears. He’s not the biggest fan of the camera, but he posed very nicely.

This is Trixie, the newest member of La’s household. La’s DH is holding her in the photo. She was terrified of the big girl camera for some reason. She’s adorable.

It was all over way too soon. We got this photo right about the time we were leaving. What you aren’t seeing is me trying to eat Zoe’s yarn that La gave her. It was so soft and beautiful.

Right as we were about to leave Her Highness came out to see what the commotion was. Sassy is in no way afraid of the camera.

I always think it’s amazing how people can see the things that you don’t. Even if you made them. Case in point- Zoe mentioned that I had a lot of FO’s for the year. I know I looked at her like she had three heads at that point, because I was thinking to myself that she was talking crazy. I wasn’t really keeping track of what I had done over the last year. I knit because I love it, and I start projects that interest me. But I never went back through my archives until she said something.

2006 FO’s:

There are a few other FO’s not pictured that I also finished in 2006. A large version of the skull tote, a cashmere scarf for one of my actors on my show last year, three hats, one sock (since it doesn’t have a mate I’m considering it half an FO), another pair of the slippers above (man sized), a scarf for Knit For the Cure, and a knit thong for my boss. I wish I had a photo of the last one because it was awesome. And? A little frightening since he has a 48″ waist.

That adds up to 18.5 things finished in 2006. I really had no idea. In my mind the only things I kept track of were the things I never finished. Thank you Zoe for making me recognize my accomplishments and not just my failures.

I did notice that I knit quite a few scarves last year. Scarves really are the perfect gift for a lot of people. And I bloody hate knitting them. I really do. I get so easily bored with them, even if they have something interesting going on.

What were my first two FO’s this year?

What am I working on now?

I WILL finish that today. I want it in the mail tomorrow.

I’m also working on another pair of these:

They’re for my mom, who is going to have surgery at the end of the month. Made with Jade Sapphire 4-ply cashmere (yarn doubled) in Blue Spruce. She’s going to be in the hospital at least 3 days (hopefully no more than that) and I want her to have warm feet with some traction when they make her get up and walk around.

In other bloggy and knittery news my brother installed photopress on my blog (and got it to work!) so now there is a page you can go to and see all my photos. It still needs a little work (pink outlines instead of blue-hint hint), but I am not complaining. It’s awesome now. Thanks Mister!

Also, thanks to everyone who suggested Excel instead of Word for making lace charts. I’m sure it works great for everyone else but me, however Excel and I don’t really get along. We’ve tried and tried, but our relationship usually ends with my banging my head on the keyboard in frustration. After trying out the Knit Visualizer software demo, I went ahead and bought it. Yeah, it was pricey.

I went ahead and charted Anna Bell’s Elfine’s sock pattern and it was really easy to do. I have a .pdf version of the chart only if anyone is interested (I’m not posting a link because it’s not my pattern). Email me at slowknitter AT sbcglobal DOT net. I like the software, and I think it was a good purchase.

Next week I announce the February KFYS contest. Stay tuned.

Your FOs are beautiful! I love how you captured Sassy’s true essence. Also, I am SO referring to us as ASK! Now I just need to pull a button out of my ass.

    Hey!

Heh, Sassy looks just as imperious as my tortoiseshell. “COWER, MORTALS”
I envy you the blogger meetup, it looked like fun. I’m sorry Excel and you don’t get along. Knit Visualizer looks nifty.

Your header is wonderful! I too envy the meetup. I know no other knitters except vicariously through blogland.

I know Saber is a boy, but my first thought when I saw his pic was “Mona Lisa.”

Somehow, this post slipped by my Google Reader. My most humble apologies for the lateness!

Your 2006 was VERY productive; don’t sell yourself short!

I share your resistance to scarves, but truthfully, I haven’t made any for a while. A long while. In fact, I don’t have plans to make one, either, since I have the smoke ring pattern. That works just as well.
