Three Brave Women
February 13th, 2007 by Wen
So the February contest is over and we have not one, but FOUR winners of Yarn this month. Because, truth be told, I could not point to one crime and say “yours is the worst thing I have ever seen knitted”. We all have our dirty yarn secrets. These three ladies were actually brave enough to show us.
Stacey was the first winner, correctly guessing the secret of the ugly scarf. Perhaps the scarf would not have been SO ugly if I hadn’t gone insane and CROTCH-eted it. Though, in all seriousness, I think it would have been just as ugly knitted.
After I posted the “crimes against yarn” I waited to see what would happen next. And?
Nothing.
It took a full day for Kristen to be the first brave soul to show the six of you who read this world her dirty little secret an Aran sweater knitted in Guava colored Wool Ease. Held double.
I’m going to let that sink in for a bit.
Guava colored Wool Ease held double.
Three days later Carrie screwed up the courage to show us “The Fug”. A shawl knit out of Lion Brand Homespun on Size 11 needles and a crotch-et edging. In orange, green and purple.
And I was pretty sure I had my winner. I have documented here my extreme hatred of Homespun and crochet here muchly. But Homespun, knitted lace, AND crotch-et? Damn.
The next day Marisa joined in. She too was brave enough to commit an actual blog entry to her crime against yarn. Wool acrylic blend with ribbons woven through. Enough said.
And that was that. NO ONE else was willing to show their more unfortunate yarn/knitting choices. Too bad, because there was some seriously good yarn up for grabs. Even more than was posted in the last entry.
For Stacey, who guessed correctly:
For Kristen (currently 2 for 2 in the Yarn Fairy contests!)
For Carrie
And for Marisa
Thank you ladies, and Congratulations!
My pics are fixed now
Freakin’ blogger!!!
I would have played but honestly, I don’t have any criminal knits. Well except maybe the boucle mohair poncho I knit for my mom because she asked for a poncho…I think she wore it once! But she requested it and it was pretty albeit a poncho
Lovely prizes, very generous!
Dude! We don’t get to see pictures of the ugly knits? Where’s the love?
I didn’t have any ugly knits to show.
Besides, I’m not playing in the stashalong. I can buy yarn whenever I want, in vast quantities, and all I have to do is go without groceries or power for a little while. Tee hee.
Anyway, I haven’t been knitting long enough to do anything truly heinous (at least, not that I consider heinous)!
I had too many to add…..
Thank You for shaming us ‘weak’ ones and chastising
us . I have learned the error of my ways. From now on I will only crotch-ete horrors for your amusment. And post ‘em. And leave details on how to make them too. And wear a big fat ‘C’ on my chest. And eat Lions wool for breaky.
And Happy Valentines Day.
I would have entered except I’m too chickenshit to even pull my fug out of it’s oubliette of suckitude, let alone parade it in front of the world.
Okay okay…I was to effing lazy. Happy?
Can’t wait to see what next month’s contest is.
I still wish I could have posted a picture of the 12′ wide baby blanket.
Hey, I read your blog! (That makes at LEAST 8 of us!) But I missed the contest somehow. I’m like some of the above, both a) not knitting long enough to have horrors and b) if I had, I’d have been too lazy to take the pic, download it, email it, etc. Dang, that’s a lot of work!
I didn’t have any pictures of my crimes against yarn. All my projects gone wrong I sold at my garage sale this fall.
Aw dammit, I knew I was forgetting something. I took a piccie of a pink and grey crocheted hat I made; I’ll send it to you anyway. Maybe you could have it printed out 8×10 and throw darts at it.
Congrats to the winners!
