Missed ya at the crafty yard sale and I don't remember if there was any laceweight... acrylic fumes must have burned away some memory. I have gotten some Misti Alpaca lace at Yarns Unlimited in Santa Monica (I know, hellish drive), and Unraveled in Monrovia has Karabella Laceweight. Come over to our side of town for a visit next time! We can do lunch!

We here in Seattleville are blessed with MANY yarn shops. Actually way too many for anyone other than the rich, obsessed and unemployed to visit. Trends have been known to flow to here from there. Lace knitting has been BIG here for almost 2 years. The skinny stuff should catch on in LA soon. Until then...
www.loopyewe.com
www.littleknits.com - they have great sales
www.acornknits.com
www.weavingworks.com they do not order from their website, but they have everything you are looking for and will ship if you ask them nicely

If I lost my sock pal's sock, I would just glue some google eyes onto the remaining one and send it along.

Also (as another comment on how deteriorated my mental condition has become), I so didn't recognize my front porch on your blog. Sigh. But at least I will forget this dismay in about 20 minutes.

I'm so glad to hear that you've taken steps to freeing yourself from an evil job. Hooray for getting to see The Boy again! And sleep! And knit! Woo!

And this is me, pointedly not commenting on anything to do with lace.

I'm not bitter.

I must be a freak. I'm and "under 5" but have been knitting lace-weight for years. Maybe I'm just a glutton, I don't know.

ABYC has some laceweight...it's the very pretty, very veriegated Lorna's Laces.

Hmmmm. I think I have an internet friend who recently lost a sock on a plane...just wish I could remember who she was.

Oh, you hoar. How dare you steal the one picture where my eyes are closed!! Also, I am an "under 5" also and <strike>foolishly</strike> attempted knitting lace. Of course, I failed, but I get credit for trying right??

Abuelita's isn't that bad, but they don't have much room for much stuff. I think they have maybe one or two hanks of lace weight tucked somewhere under something. You should also check out Skein in Pasadena (you only have to take Satan's offspring's highway- the 110 to get there) or Unwind in Burbank (I'm sure they have one or two as well).

I agree with you though on the new knitter stuff. I was kind of surprised to see so much thick, heavy wool in a city known for it's heat and not very much on the side of light and breathable. I think a lot of stores, to stay afloat, try to carry what's going with the trend so the new knitters can buy and easily make whatever. They must have secret rooms somewhere for the well learned knitter to buy her stash, but we must not have the secret password to get in?

Congratulations on escaping from the soul-killing, no-knitting job. I hope that the next goes much better.
Heh, nice monkeys. They are fun to knit, aren't they? I hope you enjoy the STR yarn, I like it a lot, nice and squishy. It does come a bit overtwisted sometimes but maybe that was an one-off problem skein.

Dammit, I'm under-5 and a lace knitter too. I'm sorry about the lack of good lace weight around. The biggest yarn store in town here used to have a SINGLE variety of lace weight (in 3! Rooms! STUFFED! full of YARN! 1 laceweight. sigh). They've been getting better and are (gasp) even offering lace classes now. Fortunately there's a buttload of other shops around that are more friendly with the lace fiends. If you all ever feel like a road trip, I'm happy to give you a tour.
